Yum!!

I look forward to seeing everyone this afternoon.

CSA Harvest - Week 6

Hello Everyone,

It rained a little more last night, and thunder rumbled in the distance as I fell asleep. There is nothing quite like the early morning hours after a rainstorm. It is heavenly. I love that fresh smell and calmness in the air.

The beautiful morning made for a very enjoyable harvest.  Can you believe we are already a third of the way through the season? I hope you have been enjoying the fresh produce thus far.

This week's share includes the following:

Salad Greens
Head Lettuce

Kale, Chard or Collard Greens
Snap Peas and/or Snow Peas

Carrots
Turnips
Cucumber
Basil
Edible Flowers
Kohlrabi
Pepper (Beaver Dam or Islander)
Herbs (Mint, Parsley or Sage)

I look forward to seeing everyone this afternoon!

Downpour

We enjoyed rain at the farm on Thursday evening as well as Friday afternoon, but today it was a full on downpour. It felt amazing and a beautiful double rainbow came out right before dark!!!! Magic. Pure magic. There may or may not have been a pot of gold in the garden... I guess you will find out in this week's CSA Harvest.

Various flowers have started blooming in the gardens and the vegetables are growing beautifully.
It is time to harvest garlic and hang it up in the barn to cure.

And, I checked on the honey bees this morning. They are bizz buzzing around, busy as ever and helping pollinate the crops. Love these ladies! Keep up the good work girls.

Rain drops

I have really been enjoying the afternoon cloud cover and with it, the cooler temperatures and humidity. We received a little more rain on Sunday evening but I am anxious for a BIG downpour... the suspense is building.

In the meantime, I thought I should let you know the cherry tomatoes are starting to change color!! Hopefully we will be harvesting these jewels to share with the CSA in the coming weeks.

Have a beautiful day!

CSA Harvest - Week 4

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are having a lovely week. Can you believe it is already July? Time is flying by so make sure to savor the sweet Summer while it is here.

This week's CSA Harvest is complete and the share will include the following fresh produce:

Salad Greens
Head Lettuce
Asian Cabbage or Bok Choy
Snap Peas
Basil
Kale, Chard or Collard Greens
Turnips or Radishes
Rhubarb
Green Garlic
Herbs (Mint, Parsley or Sage)

I look forward to seeing everybody this afternoon!

Summertime

Oh Summer, how I love you! The long days and warm hot temperatures are amazing. I am happy to report the skies blessed us with a little rain last night, enough to keep the ground damp this morning. The pollen and dirt were rinsed off of the hoophouse covers and there is dew everywhere. Mmm. Love it! The veggies love it too, everything looked a little happier this morning.

The cherry tomatoes are growing like wild and are going to be touching the ceiling of the greenhouse in no time. Hopefully these beauties will be ripening in the coming weeks.

The early planting of heirloom slicers are setting fruit nicely. Pictured below are two varieties, a lovely Pineapple and a cluster of Soldacki.

The tomatoes in the second hoophouse are growing like weeds and in need of a good pruning, which is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

The eggplants are just starting to form flowers but not quite blooming yet.

And the peppers (sweet and hot) are all setting fruit. Here are a couple pimentos. Psst, the jalapenos are getting close!

Over the weekend we seeded salad greens, beets and arugula and transplanted cauliflower, kohlrabi, kale, mustards greens, chard etc. Today the cabbage, broccoli, brussel sprouts and scallions are going in the ground... then the big planting push is complete!!! Woot woot!

OK, I'm off to enjoy this beautiful morning. Best time of the day :)

CSA Harvest - Week 3

Wow, it has been a very productive and fast week here. We finished constructing the game fence! Fence building is hard work (my Dad is awesome and did most of this hard work) but it is complete and looks fabulous, and most importantly it means deer will not be stopping by the Early Bird Gardens salad bar anytime soon. Wahoo!

Yesterday I transplanted the paste tomatoes, ground cherries, tomatillos, green chilis and eggplant in the field and seeded more cucumbers. Woo wee, it was a long windy day but it felt great to get everything in the ground. Grow veggies grow!

This week's CSA Share will include the following:

Salad Greens
Head Lettuce
Kale or Chard
Bok Choy or Asian Cabbage
Snap Peas
Radishes or Turnips
Green Garlic
Basil
Endive

I look forward to seeing everybody tomorrow afternoon, please remember to bring your bag(s).
