Our Top 10 Workhorse Dahlias of 2026

Alright, as we get ready to open our 2026 Dahlia Tuber Shop I am excited to share some of our favorites!

In this post we are going to go over our Top 10 Workhorse Dahlias. These are the dahlias that produce the most blooms per plant for our farm and the ones we turn to week after week to fill our Florist orders, to make bouquets for our farm stand, and to stock bunches of dahlias for a local grocery store.

We plant more of these varieties every year - because they’re so reliable, hold well in the vase and are gorgeous. So - if you’re looking for some beautiful and productive varieties for your farm or home garden, be sure to check out the ones listed below.

ROSE TOSCANO DAHLIA

Rose Toscano instantly became a favorite at our farm a few seasons ago. Abundant, beautiful and a hit with our florists! These small little tubers grow into healthy plants that pump out the most perfect 3” blooms in soft coral peach. Their color and size makes them so versatile in design work.

And, dare I say, they are of little interest to the pests on our farm. These blooms rarely have any bug damage, even when petals of other varieties close by were getting chomped on. Add this one to your garden, it won’t disappoint!

Linda’s Baby Dahlia

Linda’s Baby is the first dahlia to bloom on our farm every season and once she starts, she doesn’t skip a beat.

Producing loads of beautiful soft pink/peach blooms. These flowers have a good vase life and are roughly 3-4” in size. Our florists and market customers LOVE this one.

Ka’s® Rosie Jo Dahlia

KA’s® Rosie Jo is stunning and so productive. I spent years trying to get my hands on this variety and am so happy I finally did. These healthy plants produce deep smokey raspberry blooms on long strong stems. I love them in the field, in straight bunches, in bouquets, for design work, you name it. We also harvest these for florists every week.

She’s a must grow! The tubers are a little on the pricey side, but I am happy to report that it’s also a good tuber producer, which isn’t always the case. So, with a little effort you should be able to save plenty of tubers off each plant at the end of the season, for growing the following year.

blizzard dahlia

If you need a super productive white dahlia, look no further, as Blizzard checks those boxes.

These tubers grow into big robust plants that send up gorgeous 4” blooms. They’re white as fresh snow. Long, strong stems on big healthy plants.

maarn dahlia

Maarn is hands down, the happiest dahlia we grow! She’s also the first dahlia variety I ever grew, 14 years ago.

These plants very prolific and produce plenty of bright orange blooms. They’re so gorgeous and truly shine.

skipley spot of gold dahlia

Skipley Spot of Gold is a really unique dahlia.

Big healthy plants produce flowers that have lavender/pink petals with gold tips - so the blooms have true sparkle to them. Great for florists and designers.

Produces abundantly all season long.

valley tawny dahlia

Valley Tawny is a gorgeous peachy orange dahlia. She blooms early and often, and just might be the most productive dahlia variety on our farm. The blooms are a nice 3.5"-4”, making them great for design work.

Abundant producer of both flowers and tubers. We plant more of these every season!

cecil dahlia

Cecil produces ridiculous amounts of rich coral blooms all season long. She’s a ball shaped dahlia with a good vase life.

I have spent hours and hours harvesting dahlias with our farm crew. During harvest we all chatter, sometimes about the dahlias, other days about anything and everything. I have heard one of these ladies say, more than once ‘I think this one’s my favorite’ while gazing down at a bunch of Cecil dahlias.

IRISH D PORTER dahlia

Alight… let's talk about this cute pompon style dahlia. Irish D Porter produces the sweetest little blush blooms, roughly 1.5-2 inches in size.

These flowers are perfect for wedding work and also great for adding nice pops of beauty to mixed bouquets. Our florists and farm stand customers love them. And I cannot get enough. Must grow!

cornel bronze

Cornel Bronze is such a great dahlia. Producing nice bronze/orange blooms on strong stems in abundance.

Ball type dahlia with excellent vase life. Cornel Bronze also produces great tubers that store really well.

Stay tuned as we post about our other dahlia favorites in the coming weeks!

And mark your calendars - our Dahlia Tuber Shops opens on Tuesday, March 3rd at 9am MST.
