Farm Updates + Mother's Day Weekend

Hello Everyone,

I hope you had a great week and get outside to enjoy the beautiful spring weather this weekend.

We’re deep in spring and the farm is moving right along. We’re seeding, planting, weeding, managing the regular hiccups that pop up and so much more. We had a big planting push scheduled for Monday… and then the temps on Wednesday night kept dropping in the forecast, (26 degrees is quite cold for some crops) so we delayed planting and did a lot of prep work and weeding early in the week. The next 10 days look lovely, so we’re back to transplanting and it feels good!

We planted the cherry tomatoes and heirlooms in our big greenhouse over the last couple days (see photo above) and we’re transplanting the next round of salad mix, little gems, kale and flowers in the field today. Which is good, as our prop houses are maxed out with plants and we need to make for the next round of trays we are seeding.

I don’t know about you, but I can hardly wait for the harvests to start! Fresh veggies and lots of flowers are so close.

The Harvest Countdown has begun… we’re less than four weeks away from our first harvest week and farm stand in Telluride. Mark your calendars, we plan to be in Spruce Park on Wednesday, June 3rd.

Farm Members - thank you so much for your early investment in our farm this season! We plan to mail out your Farm Cards next week so you will have them before the first harvest. Still want to become a farm member? Registration will be open for a few more days…

We have started our weekly deliveries of Veggie + Herb Starts to Durango Nursery!

Growing up we always went to our local nursery with my Mom on Mothers Day Weekend and stocked up on plants for the garden. Such a fun way to spend a day in May. The weather looks to be gorgeous this weekend and great time for planting.

The folks at Durango Nursery are awesome! They’re so supportive of our farm and filled with endless knowledge to help you with all things growing. A few of the seedlings we sent to Durango Nursery this week:

Basil (Genovese + Lemon)

Cilantro

Dill

Parsley

Perennial Herbs (Chives, Oregano, Sage, Thyme)

Head Lettuce (Green and Red)

Rainbow Chard

Kale (Lacinato + Red Russian)

Tomatoes! (Celebrity, San Marzano, Supersweet 100 + Sungolds)

And, Dahlia Tubers!

We’ll be sending more and more over the next few weeks, including more Tomato Varieties, Peppers, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Winter Squash, Flowers, etc.

DAHLIA TUBERS

Durango Nursery also has our Dahlia Tubers available! We have them packed up all cute and waiting for you. The hardest part is deciding which ones to grow!

DAHLIA TUBERS

Speaking of Dahlias… we’ll be closing the online shop soon but it’s not too late to order.

We still have plenty of gorgeous dahlia tubers available. So if you’ve been thinking about growing dahlias, or just need a few more for your garden this season - get your order in ASAP. We’ll ship them out quick and then transition our focus to planting dahlia tubers at our farm.

If you need planting info and/or a few tips for dahlia growing success, check out our Dahlia Growing Guide .

Mancos Folks - we made the sweetest Anemone Vases yesterday and they’re waiting for you at Zuma! They’re the perfect gift for Mom or to just add little spring beauty to your home.

All the spring crops are growing, some feel ahead of schedule some feel a little behind. The weather has been a wild this spring so I’m not surprised. Below is a photo or our early carrots - they’re coming! I’m curious to see what summer brings, we are hoping for lots of rain. I’d prefer it be nice gentle rains, but lets be honest, we’ll take whatever we can get!

That’s all for now. I’m off to harvest a few flowers and get the day started.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

-Mindy
